Navigating Leadership…Lessons from a Colorful Maze with My Family

Writer's picture: J.D. MillerJ.D. Miller

Leading a team is often likened to navigating a maze, but let me tell you, it's more like being in a hall of mirrors with my son at The Color Factory in Chicago!

Picture this: you're surrounded by vibrant hues, whimsical displays, and a team of eager individuals. As you step forward, you're met with reflections of yourself, each one slightly different but undeniably you. Just like leading a team, right? Each member brings their unique perspective, skills, and quirks to the table, creating a kaleidoscope of talent.

Now, add a touch of chaos – much like when my son decides to sprint ahead, leaving me in a whirlwind of laughter and confusion. Just when you think you've got a handle on things, a new challenge arises, a project takes an unexpected turn, or your son discovers yet another mirror to duck behind.

But amidst the chaos and laughter, there's magic. Just as my kids and I discover new wonders around every corner, leading a team means embracing the unexpected, finding joy in the journey, and celebrating the kaleidoscope of talents that make up your team.

So, here's to leadership, where every day is an adventure, every challenge is an opportunity, and every reflection reminds us of the colorful tapestry of teamwork. Let's embrace the chaos and create our masterpiece together!
