Putting Our Ears to Work

Writer: J.D. MillerJ.D. Miller

Know when you’ve talked too much

…at least on flights

I’m often on stage in front of a crowd. I love talking to groups of leaders.

As this pic shows (and if you have been to one of my events, I have shared plenty of these airplane pics) not everyone is thrilled to hear you talk and maybe bored to death (due to their snoring, I could tell these two were very much alive).

Take this as a reminder to listen.

Sure, we can command a room with our words, but the real magic happens when we put our ears to work.

Listening isn't just about hearing what others say; it's about understanding, empathizing, and uncovering hidden gems of knowledge. It's like finding the cheat code to leadership success!

So, fellow leaders, let's embrace our inner Sherlock Holmes and listen like our careers depend on it (spoiler alert: they kinda do!).

Remember, the next time you're in a meeting or having a conversation, don't just be present—be actively engaged, absorbing insights, and truly understanding your team's needs.

Let's be the leaders who not only speak powerfully but also listen with purpose. Together, we'll unlock a world of innovation, collaboration, and awesomeness!
