Over the holiday, I went snow tubing with family. I’ll admit, I was hesitant. Standing at the top of the hill, staring down that icy slope, I felt the twinge of fear that every leader knows: What if this doesn’t go as planned?
My son, on the other hand, was fearless—excited, ready to launch without hesitation. His confidence was contagious, so I took a deep breath, grabbed the tube, and sat down next to him.
The ride was fast, bumpy, and unpredictable. I screamed and yelled a few choice words (he laughed), but together we navigated every twist and turn. When we reached the bottom, I realized something powerful: the hill looked much scarier from the top.
In leadership, just like on the tubing hill, fear is natural, but having the right people beside you makes all the difference. My son didn’t just share his confidence—he reminded me that sometimes, the scariest challenges can also be the most rewarding when you lean on your team.
What is your fear today as a leader and how are you leaning on others to overcome them?
